Wake County hit-and-run accident leaves 2 dead, 2 injured

An early-morning car accident in Wake County left two women dead and two people with injuries on Nov. 1. The accident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on New Bern Ave. at the intersection of Trawick Road. A 1998 Honda sedan entered the intersection to turn left on Trawick Road from the eastbound lane of New Bern Ave. At the same time, a dark-colored Chevrolet Avalanche traveling in the westbound lane of New Bern Ave. ran the red light, broadsiding the Honda on its passenger side.

Speeding believed to be a factor in fatal head-on collision

Highway officials reported that a 62-year-old North Carolina resident died in a two-vehicle collision. The Oct. 23 accident transpired around 3:30 p.m. just outside of Lumberton. Law enforcement officials cited speeding and reckless driving as reasons behind the fatal accident.

Police make arrest in fatal North Carolina accident

Police in North Carolina have charged a 21-year-old man for his alleged role in a car accident that resulted in the death of one woman on the night of Oct. 4. The woman died of injuries she suffered in the crash after being taken to an area hospital for treatment. One other person was injured in the accident, according to reports.

Head-on collision in North Carolina kills motorcyclist

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to an accident involving a motorcycle that killed one person on Sept. 27. The collision occurred on North Tryon Street early in the morning when a Dodge Caravan went across the double yellow divider.

Texting while driving may be an actionable practice

North Carolina drivers might be interested to learn that, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving accounted for 18 percent of the country's motor vehicle accidents in 2010. Altogether, distracted drivers were to blame for accidents that killed 3,092 people and injured 416,000 more, reportedly.

College student killed in North Carolina car accident

A 20-year-old woman was killed in a car accident during the early morning hours of July 13 on Highway 17 about 20 miles from Wilmington. She was reportedly a passenger in a Hyundai Accent being driven by another 20-year-old woman. The vehicle went off-road and flipped over, causing the woman to be ejected from the car. She died at the scene of the accident.
