Police charge woman in North Carolina crash that killed three

She has been in the hospital recovering from serious injuries sustained on a recent Sunday morning. Now that doctors have released her, the North Carolina woman has been arrested and charged with causing a motor vehicle crash that killed three people and caused critical injuries to several others.

The crash killed a passenger in the 33-year-old woman’s car, as well as a married couple who were on their way to church when the woman’s van raced through a red light, slammed into a Ford Mustang in a Charlotte intersection and then ricocheted into their Lincoln Aviator.

The married couple – each 67 years old – died at the scene of the violent crash. The passenger in the van died several days later of severe injuries sustained when the speeding van slammed into the two vehicles and then flipped onto its side.

According to a recent news article, the couple had high school sweethearts and had been married 47 years.

One of the couple’s three daughters said they take comfort in knowing that their parents have not been separated, even in death.

“That gives us comfort, knowing that they’re still together,” a daughter said. “They were always together and they’re still together.”

The driver of the van has been charged with felony death by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, felony serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.

While there has been no information in news reports about what caused the woman’s impairment, we know from many similar tragedies that alcohol is often a factor, as well as a wide variety of illegal and powerful drugs.

Those who lose family members to impaired drivers often struggle with grief and a search for justice. A wrongful death lawsuit can help to hold the perpetrator accountable and send a message to others tempted to drive while drunk or high.
