Former NFL star awarded $12.5 million in premises liability suit

Pro football fans here in Raleigh undoubtedly remember Reggie Bush, the speedy running back who was drafted by the New Orleans Saints back in 2006. The former USC star had some success in the NFL, but never quite lived up to the hype and expectations that surrounded him after he won the 2005 Heisman trophy.

Careful: Road construction work zones ahead

It is that time of the year again: temperatures are up, schoolkids are out (and so is the sun), and people are coming and going from Raleigh for summertime adventures. It is also normal at this time of the year to see road construction both in the city and on highways that lead to us.

North Carolina mystery: Defective car or negligent driver?

It is a nearly 200-mile drive west from Raleigh to get to Boone. The town in the Blue Ridge Mountains was named for Daniel Boone, but is also known as the home of bluegrass legend Doc Watson. The town of about 17,000 residents made news recently after a series of motor vehicle accidents revived memories of Toyota’s defective product scandal involving unintended acceleration several years ago.

Report: Motorists willing to trade data for safety

Raleigh news organizations have reported time and again that Americans have seen personal data stolen from websites, companies and organizations that they trusted. Companies such as Equifax, Yahoo, Uber, JP Morgan Chase, Sony, Sears, Panera Bread and many others have been hacked in recent years. Millions of credit card numbers and other sensitive data was stolen and then shared or sold online.

Jury awards surviving family members $90 million in big rig wreck

As we well know from this past North Carolina winter, weather can rapidly change for the worse, bringing with it dangerous driving conditions. In some cases, motorists are urged to wait for a storm to pass than to try to navigate slippery roads with minimal visibility.

Part Two: Truck accidents, by the numbers

Regular readers of our Raleigh Personal Injury Law Blog know that in our previous post, we took a look at some of truck accident data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). One of the most important points made by the nonprofit organization is that 18-wheelers weigh up to 30 times as much as passenger vehicles and require up to 40 percent more road distance in which to come to a full stop.
