Truck and bus inspection spree begins June

Drivers of commercial trucks and buses, whether they're in North Carolina or elsewhere in the nation, will want to ensure that they comply with vehicle and driver safety regulations. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has scheduled its annual International Roadcheck for June 5 to June 7. The 72-hour inspection spree will take place across America, and drivers who are found violating regulations will be issued out-of-service orders.

Could a drowsy driver injure you?

When it comes to driving dangers, news sites and blogs seem full of stories about driving distracted, thanks to cellphones, and a decent bit devote space to stories about driving under the influence of alcohol.

Tire maintenance tips for improved safety

Drivers in North Carolina probably know how important it is to have good tires on their vehicles. However, they may not know all the steps that they should take to maintain these components. Proper tire maintenance can help drivers avoid deadly collisions, especially when road conditions are wet.

Ford recalls for steering wheel, clutch issues

People in North Carolina who drive a Ford Fusion or Lincoln MKZ, model years 2014 to 2018, might want to find out if their vehicle is part of a recall. Ford says that some of these vehicles have steering wheel bolts that can come loose. This can cause the steering wheel to detach from the steering column and the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Soft tissue injuries: cause and symptoms

Victims of car accidents in North Carolina will want to learn more about soft tissue injuries because they may be suffering from one without knowing it. These are injuries that affect the muscles, tendons, and ligaments rather than the bones and cartilage (hard tissue). They're notoriously hard to diagnose because X-rays cannot detect them. The symptoms vary widely and can sometimes appear hours or days after an accident.

A slip and fall can give you a traumatic brain injury

When you slip on your grocery store’s wet floor or trip on a cracked North Carolina sidewalk, usually it is no big deal. You recover your balance and keep going. Other times, however, you fall down. If you hit your head on something as part of your fall, you need to be aware that this could be serious. Such a head injury could result in a traumatic brain injury.

Commercial truck drivers at high risk for drowsy driving

Drowsy driving leads to an estimated 100,000 annual car accidents in North Carolina and across the U.S. Among these crashes, those involving commercial trucks and big rigs are the most likely to end in catastrophic injuries and even death. This is understandable as cars cannot compare to trucks in terms of size and weight.

OOIDA seeks review of rule change

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, a group that lobbies for the interests of independent truck drivers, is seeking to have their complaint against a rule change made by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration reheard. The rule relates to the guidelines for the screening of truck drivers for sleep apnea. This issue affects North Carolina drivers given that fatigued driving has been linked to several fatal tractor-trailer crashes.
