Infection following Hip or Knee Replacement Surgery?
Did you or someone close to you have a hip or knee replacement in the last few years and develop a serious infection after surgery? If so, O'Malley Tunstall, PLLC is currently investigating cases involving developed MRSA, sepsis and other bad infections as a result of the use of a warming blanket during hip or knee replacement surgery.
The 3M Bair Hugger is a warming blanket used during surgery to maintain the patient’s body temperature. A warm body temperature sustained during surgery may actually help in faster recovery times and less bleeding. HOWEVER, research is being done as there have been numerous complaints that the 3M Bair Hugger warming blanket makes the patient more susceptible to developing infections. Some evidence of the type of infections being found would include:
I. Severe pain
II. Repeat hospital stays
III. Additional surgeries
IV. Revision or eventual removal of the implant
The Bair Hugger warming blanket is connected to a portable heater by a hose with a blower. The blower uses forced warm air to maintain the patient’s body temperature during the procedure. However, it appears that the Bair Hugger system also kicks up bacteria from the operating room floor and that bacteria settles under the blanket and in the patient’s surgical site where it festers and results in an infection.
O'Malley Tunstall has handled numerous similar mass tort cases and always handles them without referral to out of state law firms. so if you have had an Infection following Hip or Knee Replacement Surgery we can from either our Raleigh or Eastern NC offices order your medical records and review to see if your infection after knee or hip replacement was due to a 3M Bair Hugger.
