Fiery crash in North Carolina kills 2

Police have reported that two people were killed in a fiery three-vehicle crash in North Carolina on the evening of July. 28. The accident took place in the southbound lanes of Interstate 85 in Davidson County at approximately 10:18 p.m. The North Carolina Highway Patrol say that they are still investigating the incident, but initial reports indicate that excessive speed and reckless driving may have been factors.

According to preliminary reports, the car accident was caused by a 2004 Toyota that was being driven erratically and at a high rate of speed as it approached the N.C. Highway 8 entrance ramp. Reports indicate that the Toyota abruptly changed direction as it approached the entrance ramp and struck the rear of a minivan that had been preparing to merge with southbound traffic on Interstate 85. The Toyota then struck a southbound pickup truck before coming to a stop after striking a tree.

Rescue workers arrived to find the Toyota engulfed in flames, and both of its occupants were pronounced deceased once firefighters had brought the blaze under control. There were no injuries reported among the occupants of the minivan or pickup truck. The North Carolina Highway Patrol were assisted at the scene by personnel from Davidson County Emergency Medical Services and the Lexington fire and police departments.

Reckless drivers sometimes lose their lives in the accidents they cause or face incarceration after killing or seriously injuring others. In these situations, personal injury attorneys who are pursuing civil remedies on behalf of car accident victims may initiate litigation against the negligent individual's insurance company or estate. In addition to compensation for their medical bills and property damage, lawsuits of this type may seek damages to cover lost income if the injuries suffered by accident victims prevented them from working for any length of time.
