North Carolina crash leaves 3 injured

Three people reportedly suffered injuries in a car accident that occurred on Dec. 19 in North Carolina. Authorities stated that the crash occurred in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near the Gallimore Dairy Road exit.

It appeared that a PT Cruiser was traveling in the westbound lanes of the interstate when the vehicle suddenly lost power. The vehicle stalled in the roadway. Several vehicles that were directly behind the Cruiser were able to safely avoid an accident with the disabled vehicle, though the driver of a Ford Fusion collided with the driver's side rear bumper of the Cruiser. Shortly after, a Jeep collided with the Cruiser. This second collision caused the Jeep to flip over onto its roof before sliding across several more westbound lanes. The vehicle came to a rest after righting itself.

The driver of the Cruiser and the two occupants in the Jeep were transported to a nearby hospital. The injuries they suffered were reported to be not life threatening. The driver of the Ford did not appear to be injured. None of the drivers involved in the crash were charged. The collision caused all five of the westbound lanes to be closed for approximately one hour and 15 minutes for debris removal.

Drivers are responsible for taking actions to avoid becoming involved in a car accident. If a person suffers an injury in a crash caused by a driver following another vehicle too closely or because they were distracted, they may be eligible to file a personal injury lawsuit against the liable driver. In most cases, these lawsuits can be filed against drivers even if the authorities do not file criminal charges. The plaintiff may seek compensation for damages associated with the crash, including the cost of hospital bills and lost income if the injured person had to miss work.
