Man charged for fleeing North Carolina accident

A 52-year-old Pennsylvania man who left the scene of a Nov. 8 accident, turned himself in to authorities on Nov. 17. The accident happened at around 11:45 a.m. on Weddington Road near Rock Hill Church Road.

According to Concord police, the man struck a motorcycle and stationary vehicle that was stopped at an intersection and then fled the scene after the accident. The motorcyclist, a 52-year-old Raleigh man, is at the Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition.

The man was charged with driving with a revoked license and felony hit-and-run after turning himself into authorities. The man was accompanied by his attorney.

At the time of the accident, the man's license was suspended. He claims he left the scene because his child was a passenger in his vehicle and he did not want the child to witness his arrest. The man was also wanted for a 2005 charge for driving with a revoked license and speeding.

A driver who causes a car accident by failing to observe rules of the road, such as stopping at an intersection, may be considered negligent in a civil trial. If so, the negligent driver may be held liable for the economic damage suffered by the injured victims.

The victims of such an accident may want to contact a person injury attorney to learn what legal options they may have. If they decide to take the case to trial, the plaintiff's attorney may be able to use evidence provided by authorities to show fault on the part of the defendant. This evidence could include toxicology reports, witness testimonies and crash reconstructions.
